History of Marching Band
Marching band evolved out of military bands. The music would help direct the troops, when they became less and less important they became a ceremonial roll. They began to perform at competitions and became a part of American football. There are still military influence in marching band such as being call to "attention", "forward march", and "tenhut". The addition of the colorguard (banner twirlers) has added to the effect of marching band.
The Pride of Clarkston Marching band is all of these things and more. There is four sections of insturments; Brass, woodwind, pit and drumline. Also the colorguard who spin flags and toss rifles. Let the tradition live on!
This summer a few students and Mr. Legg went to Spokane, WA. to watch the Santa Clara Van Guard and Spokane Thunder practice and perform at DCI (Drum Corp International). High school students make up most of the Corp and take time out every summer to travel the country to perform. If you would like more information click the DCI picture below.
