GRADES and RANK

Charles Francis Adams High School assigns grades under the direction of the Washington State Board of Education.   This is a 4.0 system.   Letter grades are as follows:

                  A = 4.0; A- = 3.7; B+ = 3.3; B = 3.0; B- = 2.7; C+ = 2.3; C = 2.0; C- = 1.7; D+ = 1.3; D = 1.0; F = 0

The total earned grade points are divided by the classes taken to determine a student's grade point average (GPA).   This is done each semester.   Students are then ranked from high to low to determine Class Rank.   Only letter grades influence GPA and Class Rank.   Because of the use of plus and minus grades, it is not unusual for the valedictorian to have a GPA ranging anywhere from 3.9 to 4.0.   No grades are weighted.
